“things that we have heard and known, that our ancestors have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”

(Psalms 78:3-4)

The 2022-2023 school year ended in June with Awards and Graduation ceremonies.

After a short (very short) break, the new school year began in August.

Samantha graduated 6th grade, the highest grade available at the Olongapo City Christian School (OCCS), and began high school at Olongapo Wesley School (OWS). The school is a ministry of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Olongapo. The church has been an influential part of Olongapo for over 100 years, with elementary and high schools added more than 50 years ago.

Public education in the Philippines faces multiple challenges. The teacher-to-student ratio is 1:35 in elementary and 1:40 in secondary schools. Teachers are laboring through long days and carrying excessive workloads. There are 170 languages in the Philippines, creating chaos for curriculum producers and providers. Mother tongue and Filipino are the languages of instruction from grades 1-3, with English taking over as the language of instruction from grade 4 onward. Added to that difficulty, a lack of investment in public education and inadequate long-term planning continually results in textbooks, learning materials, classrooms, and educator shortages. Public schools have mounting social problems, including bullying, drug use, and violence. It is poor "soil" for education and personal growth.

Private Christian schools like OCCS and OWS face challenges, too. Teachers and staff have heavy workloads, but classrooms are not overcrowded, and public school social problems are absent. With the help of God and committed administrators, teachers, church families, school families, and students working together, they overcome the challenges and even prosper academically and spiritually. Rich "soil" for academic education and personal growth.

Our scholarship kids feel safe at school with their teachers and classmates. The atmosphere of mutual respect and care for others is a fertile ground for learning and maturing.
Our scholarships are long-term, "fruit" bearing investments for the children, their families, their nation, and the world. We provide the "seed," the Christian schools working with students and their families "cultivate," and God produces growth.

God bless you for investing in these kids.
